A downloadable game

a simple game of stacking stones

game type: tabletop idle/mutation
panganya: game of stones, three stacks, seven stones each
playing pieces: 21 stones, 60 minute hourglass (you can opt for a 30 minute version)
goal: three cairn stacks of seven stones each using just one hand within the game timeframe
stones: "provider" of stones has a home court advantage, players bringing stones to mix and match is encouraged, playing field can have up to 30 playable stones on it
no technology: no phones, laptops, watches are allowed within 25 feet of gameplay, maybe more
why three stacks: contemplation of past, present, future
hourglass: flip to begin game for up to a one hour playing session (or 30 minutes)
first move: youngest player OR the person that can hold their breath the longest, then next turns are clockwise
stone fall: If two or more stones falls during game play, restart with all stones in that stack unstacked, keep any previous stacks of seven in play and keep hourglass running until time runs out

stone selection options:  1/have all 21 stones scattered on playing field & select one before each turn, 2/pull one stone from a box blindly before each turn, 3/players select all their stones from playing field round-robin style prior to play starting, 4/something else

∞ Solo Version: one player, seven stones in a single cairn pile, three different stacks of seven stones each, 21 total. Done: when all three stacks are standing before the timer runs out
∞ Cooperative Version: take turns adding one rock until there are three cairns, seven stones each, 21 total and everyone wins, make it easier for the next player. Done: when all three stacks are standing on their own before the timer runs out
∞ Competitive Version: take turns adding a rock to any of the three cairns, one per person at a time, until there are three cairns, seven stones each, 21 total, making it harder for the next player. Done: player with least cairn falls when timer runs out wins,
∞ Solo 365 Version: no hourglass, add one stone every 17 days, on day 365 all 21 stones should be in three cairns of seven stones each. Let stand as long as possible
∞ Competitive 1:1 Sandstorm Version: first player turns the hourglass over and makes three stacks of seven stones each, 21 total, as quickly as possible. Once first player has three stacks or seven stones they flatten the playing field and flip hourglass over and player two had that time to “beat” player one's time, before the time runs out

If you play Panganya in a public place with stones in the wild, please make sure the 21 stones are returned to where you found them and follow all Leave No Trace Seven  Principles

To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour.
~William Blake

I'm not sure I understand the function of the hourglass. Is the play session an hour long? Or is a turn an hour long? Or... something else?

Thnx for asking. Play session is up to an hour long (and that may be too long), may work better at 30 minutes. Wanted an visual reminder of time passing juxtaposed w/ the permanence and stillness of stones.

Noodling w/ stones on the beach

Wanted to build something even simpler than Pente, but w/ a zen like idle quality. Also wanted a physical game, but w/ playing pieces (stones, in this instance) players could find in nature, as a way to both be connected to nature, and see the inherent beauty in it as well. Rock on ;-)
